Karissa is a RYT YACEP 500 hour ashtanga, iyeanger, life power and trauma informed yoga instructor – and ICF certified life coach – who has shared her gifts at venues such as Wanderlust Festivals and SXSW.
Karissa fell in love with the practice of yoga by way of a skiing injury, and took it as a sign that the Universe was telling her she needed to slow down and breathe. As a lifelong athlete, she most resonates with an intense yet invigorating practice that makes her students feel empowered to tackle life with strength, tenacity, and resilience both on and off of their mat.
She is passionate about the true healing power of yoga and its byproduct – the gift of coming home to oneself. She believes that yoga possesses the ability to save lives because she has seen how it has not only transformed hers, but countless others.
Karissa plans to take you on a transformative journey by way of combination of all of her skill sets and certifications. In her yoga class you don’t just get a teacher, you get someone who is attuning your nervous system and helping to expand what is possible while demystifying your limiting beliefs via her coaching training, all while you heal the trauma stored in the fascia of your tissues.
She takes her positive psychology toolkit and leads you through the evidenced based work of pioneers like Barbara Frederickson and Caroline Miller. She’ll be not only guiding you through breathwork meditation and yoga, but journal prompts bound to assist you in getting unstuck. These prompts will be a powerful catalyst for growth that both Karissa and Tia will help you unpack during group.

Dr. Albia obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and is eager to share her experiences in bilingual neuropsychological evaluations, culturally-competent treatments and interventions, and integrative health care/consultation-liaison.
Imagine your traditional vinyasa style flow class, but only semi-guided, giving the advanced practitioner time to free flow on their own and find play and permission in their practice. Karissa will guide you on a journey through the doorways of her vinyasa class such as sacred space, ignite the spirit, light the fire, stoking your logs, etc; walking you through each sequence several times before setting you free to play on your own. All while dancing, playing and flowing to some serious beats. All levels welcome.
Think of your traditional ashtanga primary series (usually 3 hours) condensed down to 60-75 minutes. This class is fully guided – follow the yoga, and use your breathe as your music.
Did you know it takes 3-5 minutes for the brain to communicate to your fascia that it is safe to begin to release? This is the rationale behind yin. We hold postures for at least 3 -7 minutes because only at the 3 minute marker do we even begin to heal our fascia. Expect to melt onto your mat. To find your parasympathetic, rest and digestive nervous system, and ease into a homecoming of rest and relaxation. All levels welcome. Music is chosen to calm the nervous system – to put us into our parasympathetic and, though not guaranteed (but likely), to be drooling on your mat by the end.

I attended Tia and Karissa’s Empowerment Workshop in July, 2023 and was so thankful for the opportunity to breathe, meditate, journal and be vulnerable in a safe space. I left feeling hopeful and optimistic knowing I have the power to make meaningful choices in my journey to be the best version of myself. I am looking forward to joining them for one of their upcoming retreats. – Julie, Montana
